In the past couple of months, I have seen multiple people posting their store’s link and asking for a review. Out of all the store links, only 5% of the stores actually look good. Some of them lack some essential things and some of them look as if they were built within 15 minutes with basic pages/elements missing.
We run a web design agency and in our experience there are a few things which you should keep in mind while building your store.
There are basically 10 important elements that should be there on your store.
- Theme
Your theme is the first thing that the customer sees. Make sure that your theme is simple and easy to navigate. The most important factor in theme selection is the colour theme. If your store has a very bright looking green coloured layout then chances are that your store won’t convert as much. Go for a more muted coloured theme like white, skin colour, or any light colour.
2. Logo
Your logo tells a lot about your store. If your logo is a large text of your domain name with no typography then I’m sorry but it’ll leave a negative impact on your store. You can hire designers foe your logo or can make one. The suggestion is to make a logo that relates to your niche, looks elegant and simple, and is of the right size. Now if you’re struggling with the logo design then you can have a typography logo like millions of others. Select a beautiful looking font and write your store’s name. Resize or color it in accordance with the theme of your store and you’re good to go. Make sure that font that you’re using looks beautiful and is not very common. You can search for millions of fonts from this website- https://www.fontsquirrel.com
3. Font
As stated in the above point, your font can leave a positive or a negative impact. Your product title, descriptions, pages etc. should have a sleek looking font. Select a sleek looking font. Use a bold version of it for the title, a light/thin version for descriptions or other content, and a super light/super thin and italic version of it for other information. The font is generally overlooked by many store owners and it’s why their store looks kind of ugly at first glance.
4. Banner image
Banner image is important. It is the very first image that the customer sees and judges your store by. Upload a high quality banner image which is related with your niche. You have a fashion store? Upload a high quality banner image of a model.
5. Product images
DON’T UPLOAD LOW-QUALITY IMAGES. I can’t begin to describe how many stores I have seen going with low-quality product images. Talk to your supplier to get a high-quality image or you can even see the product images your competitors, if they’re using the images that are available on the internet, go fo it. Remove any kind of watermark or brand name through some software. It is very easy to do and you should do it. Upload high-quality product images. It helps sell big time.
6. Description
Again, a very important factor that gets overlooked. Make sure your descriptions are well written. Try to provide as much info as possible with the product descriptions. Make some text bold, make some italic, make some light but ensure that the descriptions LOOKS good. You can upload gifs also if the product falls into that category. Don’t go with the standard aliexperess descriptions or 2-3 liner descriptions. Invest your time into it, write it well till you yourself understand the product from the description only.
7. Professional email id-
Don’t go with yourbrand@gmail.com kind of email ids. Go with more professional ones like support@yourbrand.com/ contact@yourbrand.com. It makes you look more professional and builds trust with the customers. You can get these kind of emails for free of cost from Zoho mail so if you don’t have one yet, get it, literally for $0 if you buy from zoho mail.
8. About us section
Invest some time into it. Tell a story through this page. If you’re in a saturated niche, the about us section can make your stand out. Tell a story of your brand and tell them why and how your brand is different and why they should buy from you. Don’t write 4-5 lines. People do read it and take it seriously, so write good amount of it and add images to back your statements and values.
9. Homepage
The most important factor. The first impression is the last impression so make sure that you’re leaving a great first impression of your store. Keep your homepage, clean guys, I have seen multiple people just making their homepage crowded with everything. Don’t do it. Make a clean looking homepage with a banner image, something about the brand itself, categories(remember the high quality thumbnails), some sleek looking trust badges(make sure all of the trust badges are of same colour, you can easily find these on google), some featured products if you want, testimonials(important!), blogs if any, instagram if any, and newsletter subscription if you want. Don’t over crowd it with products and reviews etc. Make it simple and elegant.
10. Plugins
Don’t add unnecessary plugins and make your store seem like spam. Go with a limited amount of them which you think are important and can help the conversions. Plugins can make your site slow so make sure you’re not using a lot of them, only use the necessary ones.
Guys, as I have said, we have been in the web design industry for more than 3 years now and our company has made multiple stores for various clients so we know what works and what doesn’t.
If you implement all the points that I have mentioned above on your store then trust me, if your ad targeting is good, you can see a huge amount of difference in your conversion rates.
Small things matter and this is a business so make sure you treat it like one. It takes time for a business to grow so be patient with it.
